10 Things I Buy at Costco to Make Healthy Choices Easier

I’m busy. Actually, I’m lazy and busy, so I try to help future Laura make easy healthy decisions by getting these items in BULK at Costco every time:

1. Grape Tomatoes

I’m the only one in my house who eats these, but that 2-pound clamshell lasts a couple of weeks just sitting on the counter. A handful of tomatoes buys me a few minutes to figure out: am I truly hungry, or just bored? Because if I grab something sweet or salty, I’ll definitely keep eating it and never really know.

2. Hard-Boiled Eggs

Remember the laziness? I rarely make time to boil and peel my own eggs.

3. More Hard-Boiled Eggs

At this point, they take up about 25% of our fridge, and it’s worth it. My vegetarian husband eats four HB eggs at once. We need a few boxes.

4. Frozen Fruit

I used to think frozen fruit was less nutritious, which isn’t true  (Li et al., 2017; Bouzari et al., 2015). Frozen fruit is just as good, WAY cheaper, and doesn’t go bad hiding behind your leftovers.

My go-to smoothie: Wawona Daybreak Blend + water + Lemon Italian Ice whey protein powder (not at Costco). It costs a quarter of what coffee shop smoothies do and tastes twice as good.

5. Kirkland Organic Greek Nonfat Yogurt

Every morning I mix a bowl of this yogurt with a scoop of the same lemon protein powder I use for breakfast (or another one of their tart or sour flavors!). The macros on this yogurt are great! In 2025, I started eating this breakfast and switched my Probiotic to SEED*, and my digestion/gut heath has never been better.

6. TOOM Garlic Dip

This is my favorite dip atm. Warn anyone you plan to kiss, but honestly, TOOM might be better than kissing a non-garlic eater anyway. It goes great with raw veggies including…

7. Carrots

Two purposes:
A) Fantastic dog treats when chopped into little bites (and my dogs look adorable chewing them), and
B) They are the perfect “I’m starving but need to make dinner” appetizer.

8. A Giant Bag of Apples

Again, I’m the only one who eats them, but they last forever in the fridge. Best sliced thin with peanut butter or cheese (aka lazy charcuterie board).

9. Sweet Protein Bars

You guys. I eat sweets every day. So I have to have bars around for a chocolate fix that has enough protein to fill up with. My goal is: under 200 calories, over 15g of protein, and low net carbs (which is total carbs minus fiber and sugar alcohols).
Favorites: Fulfil, Built Puff, Kirkland Chewy Protein Bars (lower protein, but my kids love these), RxBars, and Barebells (okay you can’t buy these at Costco, but maybe someday?!).

10. Cans of Sparkling Water

It’s just water, but in a can, it feels fancy enough to replace a cocktail or dessert but has zero calories. Kirkland Signature is pretty good, but San Pellegrino is my favorite. I love little no-calorie joys!
